Interested in joining TOA?

Welcome. Our doors are open for the right people. If you would like to join ToA please read on. Joining ‘The Temple’ is a commitment, that requires, time, energy, dedication, lots of work in the desert, money, and sometimes even your own blood. Our philosophies are love, respect, integrity and of course our love for our dark kinks. It is a very rewarding experience, an endeavor that we began in 1997. We are a professionally run S&M camp at Burningman,…..S&M summer camp if you will. We are a very tight knit group, and we are very selective as to whom we allow to join us. We fully recognize that we are not for everyone. We have achieved balance among the Brethren, and we are very protective. New folks join on a trial basis, and if you fit within our family we will lovingly invite you back. The Temple of Atonement exists both on and off the Playa. On the Playa we have our elaborate Temple, and off we organize several events, benefits and parties. We are a Family.

During the Burn we hold classes for the Burningman community on S&M related topics. Every year we have a Slave Auction where we buy and sell the burningman community. Thursday Night is Players Night where we close our doors to the public and have a large ‘Players Only’ party, invitations are decided by Temple members and are at the mercy of our tight door security. Every night we open the Dungeon for operation. Outside the dungeon we have a stage and dance space. Few folks make it through our doors, but those that do may walk away with a life changing experience.

The Business List All members are required to participate on our group email list. Here we discuss, develop and build the plans for the Temple as well as make announcements. This is a business list, so we encourage casual chat to take place off-list.

Work parties Should new projects be developed this year, work parties will be organized.

Setup/Tear down All members must participate in the Setup of the Temple or in the Tear down after the Burn, preferably both.

Working during the Burn Running the Temple of Atonement requires a full, trained and dedicated staff. All members must take a minimum of 3 shifts during the Burn. Positions include Dominants, Security, Dungeon Monitors (DM’s), and Garbage & Recycling. Each position has an associated Project Leader who can train you. Due to the nature of our work, we must take these jobs seriously, so we have a ‘no-drugs’ policy while your working. Each of us is a protector of the Temple, and there is plenty of time afterward to enjoy ourselves in ‘other’ ways.

Garbage & Recycling at the Burn is a heavy task as there can be up to 35 of us. Organized by The Queen of Filth, there are several receptacle locations around our camp. Do us (and yourself,…hehehe) a favor and READ the labels on the receptacles. An upset Filth Queen is a nasty thing.

Dues Each member must contribute a minimum of $200-250+ to the Temple of Atonement. This years budget will pay for storage fees, logistics, equipment and supplies. Dues are due as soon as you are able, and must be submitted before July. The earlier you pay, the better off the Temple will fare. Special arrangements to work around paying dues is possible but, this is by explicit permission by the Temple organizers and usually requires some other large contribution to the Temple.
